Summer Training of IT 1st Year and 2nd Year will start from 6th June 2011

The Summer Training of IT 1st and 2nd Year students will start from 6th June 2011 i.e Monday. All the students should attend this training, as it will be conducted by experts from HCL. For All the students of 1 year & 2 Year attendance is mandatory as low attendance can result in detention. 

BFCET celebrates bisakhi as “ETC 11” on APRIL 19th 2011

Baba Farid College of Engineering & Technology celebrated BISAKHI on 19^th APRIL 2011 as ETC’11. The chief guest of the day was Mr.Gurmeet singh dhaliwal, Managing Director, Baba farid group of institutes, Bathinda . Miss kuljit kaur boparai , Lect, applied science deptt. welcomed the guests and informed them about the history of Baba Farid Group of Institutions. Mr. Harpal Singh Deputy director, facility management BFGI,Bathinda inaugurated ETC’11 by lighting up the candle . Then Ms. Kujlit kaur, introduced the guests with all the inter departmental technical events which were conducted by dept, of INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. Mr. Manish Goyal, head of deptt,Mechanical engineering, Baba farid enginnering technology, bathinda, formally welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries on the auspicious occasion and introduced him to the background of Baba Farid Vidyak Society & different types of activities being carried out for the development of students and society at large. 

Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, Baba farid group of institutes, Bathinda, in his address appreciated the efforts made by students to celebrate Bisakhi. He spoke at length about the contribution of Engineers in different fields like governance and IT industry. In his address he stressed upon awareness towards choosing their carrier path and asked them to work hard with dedication and to be practically strong in their field. 

A student of B.Tech (IT) 4^th semester, Mr. Jaspreet Singh gave presentation on the topic Bisakhi.

As this was a function conducted by the students of HIT society, the student body of IT deptt. a technical quiz was conducted which contained the informative questions about the IT industry and IT history.

4 different technical competitive events were organized one day before that is on 18^th april 2011 named Mech Plex(movie making), LAN gaming, poster making, and IT quiz. A total of 90 students of different branches of Engineering College participated in these events. 

Girls of IT 6^th sem added glory to the function by performing gidha, the traditional folk dance of Punjab.                                   

Mr. Gurpreet Singh Mann, Head, deptt of IT , Baba Farid College of Engineering & Technology, while delivering vote of thanks. He thanked Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, Baba farid group of institutes, Bathinda,  for gracing the occasion by sparing his valuable time and for sharing his views with the students. He also thanked all the principals of various colleges and the centalised Head for being amongst the engineering students on Bisakhi celebration. At the end all enjoyed the closing of function with bhangra performed by the boys of IT deptt.  the folk dance of  Punjab.

Deptt Of IT Organized Industrial Visit for the students of IT 6th & IT 4th Sem

Department of Information Technology organized an industrial visit for the students of IT 4th and 6^th sem. This industrial trip was organized to give the practical exposure to the students and the latest advancements in the IT industry. This visit was done in SEASIA CONSULTING, Mohali.  This made the students aware of the latest partial projects and the working in the professional environment. Further to make the students fresh and burden free from the regular studies this industrial visit was extended as a trip to Mcleod Ganj. Students were accomplished by Mr. sumit arora, Mr. Amandeep singh, and Ms. Gagagnjot kaur (Lect) Baba farid engineering college.

Department of CSE & IT conducted Expert Lecture on Software Testing

Department of CSE & IT, BFCET organized a guest Lecture for the students of CSE 6^th sem, Er. Simpel Jindal Assistant Professor in Yadavindra College of Engineering, Talwandi Sabo, came to give expert Lecture on S/W Testing on 1^st April 2011. Er. Sukhpreet Kaur, Head, Deptt. of CSE welcomed her. Er. Simpel Jindal started with the introduction of the topic and told the students that software testing is a new developing area for the jobs. She discussed various Software Testing techniques and gave brief overview on various aspects on Software testing. She said Software testing form an important & essential process without which the software development process is incomplete.

All the students of CSE 6^th sem appreciated the expert lecture and were grateful to Er. Simple Jindal for giving them such useful information. Department of CSE is constantly putting efforts to import more & useful knowledge to the students through expert lecture of various renowned personalities in the field of Computer science and Engineering.  

Group Discussion on the Subject Operating System

Various Books and topics were discussed among all with full enthusiasm and in a positive manner.

Er. Amandeep Singh gave different aspects of definition of operating system. Er.Sukhpreet Kaur HOD CSE had taught the subject last year so, she was really helpful in clearing doubts about certain topics. Er. Gurpreet Singh Maan and  Er. Puneet Bansal agreed that the book by Galvin is very good for theory but not so good for practical knowledge. Er.Sunil Nagpal of CSE Department explained about deadlock and how they occur in Operating System. Er. Gurveen Kaur, HOD, IT Department laid emphasis on deadlock handling and deadlock prevention. Er. Manushi discussed the starvation problem in operating system, How it occur and How it can be resolved. Er.Amandeep Kaur said that according to her round robin algorithm and priority algorithm are best among all scheduling algorithms. Er. Harleen Kaur is taking the subject of LINUX so she discussed unix and linux in brief stating their advantages and disadvantages over windows.

Overall the discussion on the operating system proved to be very fruitful to every faculty member of staff. 

Group Discussion on the Subject FCPIT

Department of CSE & IT had a group discussion on the subject “Fundamentals of Computer Programming and Information Technology” on 19th February 2011. All the faculty members participated with full enthusiasm in the group discussion. Er. Gurpreet Singh Mann of IT deptt. is taking the aforesaid subject of 1^st year students. He initiated the discussion by giving introduction to the subject

Syllabus of FCPIT was discussed by all faculty members. The subject was taught by many of the faculty members, so a very healthy and fruitful discussion started among all. Er. Sukhpreet Kaur, HOD (CSE) stated some of the merits of teaching this subject to all the branches not only to the students of CSE & IT. Er. Gurveen Kaur, HOD (IT) discussed the first part of syllabus i.e. fundamentals of computers and was joined by rest of the faculty members explaining various aspects of syllabus which need more attention and explanation in class.

Further, several books were suggested by faculty members who had taught the subject previously. For the fundamentals of computer book by Sinha & Sinha was suggested by Er. Sunil Nagpal. Book by R.S Salaria was suggested by Er. Gurpreet Singh Mann.

Er. Harleen Kaur said that the topic of windows , operating system and MS-Word is best covered in labs giving students more exposure & practical knowledge. For the programming language, C++ book by S.K Pandey was suggested by Er. Amandeep Singh. Book by Balaguruswamy for C++ programming and concepts were referred by Er. Manushi.

Er. Sumit Arora said that whole syllabus is covered very well by Yashpal Sinha in the book of FCPT by Kalyani Publications.

Further some topics related to the subject like HTTP & FTP, NTF & FAT were discussed.
